GIGABYTE 8 Series OC Boards Most eagerly awaited on OCN

We just came across a few polls posted on Overclock.net that attempts to gauge which Z87 boards Overclockers are most looking forward to. The first poll asks: ‘Which brand would you buy a Z87 Motherboard from?’

It’s really encouraging to see 66% of votes going to GIGABYTE.

Another poll also posted on OCN asks specifically about OC and gaming board models: ‘Which gaming/overlocking Z87 motherboard are you most looking forward to?’ Again we can see GIGBAYTE out front with 39% of total votes cast.

We’ve really put a great deal of thought into our forthcoming OC offerings, pulling out all the stops to give Overclockers an absolutely awesome OC experience. Hicookie and our engineers have been working ceaselessly for several months now, ensuring every last detail is nailed. So it’s really, really encouraging to see the OC community is so stoked about these boards.

TeamAU HiCookie and G Skill crew break 3DMARK05 world record live on stage at Computex GSkill booth!

G.Skill put on another fantastic OC show during Computex and had GIGABYTE over on Friday to do some overclocking live. TeamAU was there with dinos22 and youngpro. HiCookie, hiwa and Christian Ney were also present for a day of fun and a very late world record minutes before the venue pulled the power plug on a high clocking Z87X-OC rig and GTX Titans.

Boys from TeamAU, HiCookie and G.Skill crew managed to take the 3DMARK05 world record live on stage with some help from the new Intel Haswell platform and the new Z87X-OC board and dual Titan GPUs.

GIGABYTE USB Blocker now available on AMD Platforms

Good news today ladies and gents, our exclusive USB Blocker utility that has been available on Intel platforms since August is now also available on both AMD FM1/FM2 and AM3+ platforms. For those of you who have missed it, the GIGABYTE USB Blocker is very simple utility that you can download and install for free on the gigabyte website that allows you block certain USB device types on your PC. This is a simple way to control what kind of devices can connect to your PC over USB, useful for example when you want to block USB thumb drives and hard drives on a public computer.

The GUI (above) is simple to use. You simply select the class of USB device that you would like to block, enter the password, select to block or unblock and youre done. Devices classes that are blocked will subsequently be ignored by the Windows 7 OS.

To start using the GIGABYTE USB Blocker:

• Go to your motherboard’s download page on the GIGABYTE website
• In the drop down menu, select ‘Utility’
• You’ll find the download link for USB Blocker on the list of available utilities
• Right click on the destination closest to your location
• Save to a specific folder on your hard drive
• Click on the installer and follow the on screen instructions

Note: USB Blocker requires that you have Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (full Version) installed. You can get that directly from Microsoft here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17718

Hardware Asylum podcast is out sandbagging and consoles are on the menu!

Hey guys, Hardware Asylum have come out with anther interesting podcast today. They are talking about the world of overclocking and a strategy coined “sandbagging” which gained some prominence during the last HWBOT Country Cup (aka. World Cup of Overclocking) in which a lot of teams waited to post some of the final scores on the last day. Some didn’t like this and other had no issues with it. For those who are still scratching your head what sandbagging actually is, tune into the podcast where they compare it to Ebay, Poker and a couple of other things you may be able to relate to better! It’s an interesting discussion and while I don’t particularly agree with some of the ideas on current topics, I always like to have a listen to Dennis’ and Darren’s podcasts.

‘Pi is Returned’ A GIGABYTE OC Contest on HWBOT

Last Friday evening we launched our latest overclocking contest on HWBOT, Pi is Returned. The big news with this contest is that AMD and ourselves have managed to stump up some nice fat cash prizes – over 5 grand in total as well as some pretty attractive hardware prizes too.

The idea is pretty simple: Two AMD platforms – FM2/1 & AM3+ - on two classic benchmarks – Super Pi 1M and Super Pi 32M. Here’s the break down of stages and prizes in more detail:

Looking for a good memory clocking bios on Z77X UP5TH

Hi guys,

For all of you die hard RAM overclockers out there I wanted to give you heads up about some RAM overclocking I’ve come across on OCAU forum in Australia done by a member “Bullants” using a GIGABYTE Z77X-UP5TH and F12e beta bios. He says he’s testing some G.Skill PSC IC based memory to get an idea on frequency first before trying full out liquid nitrogen cooled memory with 32M SuperPi.

1370MHz (2740) 7-12-7-30-1T 8M SuperPi single channel is not a bad start on air cooling I reckon, not bad at all! Says he’s close to getting 32M to pass also.

Nicely done Bullants, looking forward to seeing some ultra efficient SuperPi runs from you!

Blunty3000 shows off goodies at GIGABYTE PAXAU booth on YouTube

You guys should check out this awesome video from PAX Australia with GIGABYTE booth having all sorts of crazy things going on including a liquid nitrogen show, watercooled gaming rigs and a lot of awesome gaming laptops about to be released. The liquid nitrogen rig got some sweet camera work but I loved the dramatic introduction to this video, hahah. It’s awesome!

Our man Colin was in the US recently and took time to visit Newegg, specifically to chat about our new line of BRIX compact PC kits. GIGABYTE EOC Overclocking Live this Friday August 8 on twitch

If you are free this Friday, August 8, you should definitely tune in to Overclocking-TV’s twitch channel as Massman and Xyala will host a live stream of the GIGABYTE EOC competition taking place in Germany. The stream will start at 10AM (GMT+1), make sure you time this right with your local time zone.

This event has been put together by Der8auer in partnership with GIGABYTE. A total of 6 German overclocking teams will compete during 5 hours, benching through CPU-Z, XTU, SuperPi 32M and Memory clock. To do so, the participants will be using the following hardware:

• CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K
• Motherboard: GIGABYTE Z97X-SOC Force LN2
• VGA: GIGABYTE HD7790
• Memory: Kingston (probably MFR)
• SSD: Kingston
• PSU: Seasonic (probably 1200 W)

Ho yeah, some live overclocking on the Z97X-SOC FORCE LN2! With this motherboard the participants should be able to get exciting and fierce benching results!
