GIGABYTE X99 New Function QFlash Plus

On an healthy running system, you can easily update your BIOS using the @BIOS option found in the App Center. But in the unfortunate event that both your main BIOS and Backup BIOS becomes unavailable, or that you have a new CPU that requires a different BIOS, you will not be able to boot up your system to access the App Center. That is where QFlash Plus comes handy. Here are the steps to follow to flash your BIOS using QFlash Plus.

- Make sure your USB thumb drive is formatted in FAT32 and upload the BIOS you want to flash to it. You can find the latest BIOS version for your motherboard on GIGABYTE’s website : http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/download-center.aspx?ck=2

- Rename that BIOS file to GIGABYTE.BIN

- Turn OFF your system and plug in your USB thumb drive in the white USB port located at the BACK I/O panel.

- Turn your system ON and wait for the BIOS to be flashed. This step may take a few minutes, do not reboot your system or remove the USB thumb drive during that process. An LED located next to the white USB port will blink showing that the new BIOS is being uploaded to your system. Once this LED is turned off, the process is complete.

- Turn off your system, remove the USB thumb drive and restart your system.

Voila!

In the following video, Colin gives you a demonstration on how to use QFlash Plus on GIGABYTE X99 motherboards.

GGF LAN view review of GIGABYTE Z87X UD3H lots of info on new UEFI bios

Hi guys,

We’ve just come across a YouTube video from GGF LAN guys reviewing the new GIGABYTE Z87X-UD3H. Stuart was particularly impressed with the UEFI bios and spent most of the review discussing it in detail. You should check it out!

Are you looking to get some fast RAM for the new platform Check out the new GSkill TridentX!

I’ve been doing some RAM testing on the new Z77 GIGABYTE platform and must say I am pretty impressed with how well the new GSkill TridentX memory has been performing.

My testing revolves around frequency efficiency (as in high frequency with very tight timings that is capable of running very fast for the CPU and RAM set frequency limit in SuperPi 32M). I could reach well over 1400MHz frequency with this RAM but 1400MHz(2800) 10-12-12-19-1T was the fastest mix of efficiency and speed. This ram is rated at 1300MHz 10-12-12-31-2T at stock so that is a nice boost past rated speed and timings also.

GIGABYTE and GSkill are planning on putting on an overclocking show for this year’s Computex so keep a close eye on that. We will update you with some news as it happens as well.

Here are some results obtained with GIGABYTE Sniper3 board and GSkill TridentX 2600 kit. I hear Corsair, Kingston and Team Group have similar RAM also, time to get some new RAM to make your platform really shine!

TEST SYSTEM:

  • GIGABYTE Sniper3 (Z77 based) motherboard
  • Intel 3770K Ivy Bridge CPU
  • GSkill Trident X 2600
  • Corsair F90 SSD
  • Corsair HX750 Power Supply

Running daily testing for me is done on an old Mach SS cooler that runs at –40C. Perfect for long superpi testing sessions! Getting high frequency RAM clock on Z77 can be obtained with all air cooled setup as well which is good news for those putting together their 24/7 high end PCs.

GIGABYTE Sniper3 is the board i tend to use for my day to day RAM testing. Stable board with great frequency OC and efficiency.

GIGABYTE Extreme OC Workshop New Zealand in pics!

image (4)PC World NZ came over to Playech.co.nz this weekend to check out GIGABYTE’s latest instalment of the popular Extreme OC Workshop being help in the Auckland PC store’s gaming room. Playtech hosted a wonderful night of overclocking for the 100+ crowd that gathered at the start.

TeamAU’s deanzo, dinos22 and youngpro were there to teach the crowd about LN2 overclocking and then capped off the night with a friendly overclocking competition between the two teams with a fixed frequency of 6GHz in 32M SuperPi cacluations. Efficiency and memory tuning came into play and we could not separate the contestants from their PCs after the sirens went off as it proved to be a very addictive way to be introduced into overclocking!

I’m still feeling a little angry at my team mate youngpro (coach for the Australian team we named “Wallabies” after our Rugby Union side) because he allowed the “All Blacks” team to win, strangely coincidental to be named after NZ world champion rugby team. Luckily we had our own [traitor hehe] team mate, deanzo, coach this team. Rivalry between Australians and New Zealanders was in full swing particularly when the announcement was made that All Blacks triumphed, followed by the loudest geek cheers you will ever hear, in the overclocking challenge as well!

Congratulations All Blacks, you have beaten us in overclocking now as well!

I’ll put a couple of shots but for the full (fun) article you’re one more mouse click away (at this website).

P.S. Playtech have also put up lots of photos from the night at their facebook page here.

Evening started innocently freezing flowers etc

Wallabies (Australian) team captain showing everyone how it’s done. It was great having some girls genuinely interested in overclocking and participate through the day, very dedicated! It’s cool being a geek girl :)!

Then someone lost a finger (strangely the captain of the AllBlacks team found it humorous)! Dissing it’s own team mate, what is going on with these people heheheh?!?

Wait what?!? OK maybe he didnt lose a finger as we saw him benching with all ten fingers later on in the evening. Hmmmm, New Zealanders have a strange sense of humour heheheh! (wait i can’t see neither one of the 10 fingers EEK!)

Note from Cpt. Obvious: No fingers were hurts during the making of this show! hehe.
